Life Coach Proposes Solution to Nevada's Student-Counselor Ratio Crisis

Las Vegas, NV (PRWeb) February 28, 2007 -- Senator Harry Reid was recently "startled" by the fact that counselors in Nevada's Clark County School District handled caseloads of 400-plus students (Las Vegas Sun, February 23, 2007). The fact that Clark County's student-counselor ratio is among the nation's highest did not startle Life Coach Mysty Cain.

As the President of Capacity Living, Inc., a life coach and personal development company serving nationwide clients, Cain knew that her company was already providing many of the services that many students were not receiving as a result of the counselor crisis.

Capacity Living's, Coaching to Capacity Program, has a track record of providing life skills training to high school and college age students in the areas of decision-making, goal-setting, career selection, listening, values and much, more. In fact, Cain recently launched a website devoted exclusively to providing youth with a chance to learn and implement decision-making skills using dilemmas in their own lives (www.decisiongirl.com).

Cain believes that she can utilize her company's existing technology and infrastructure in order to launch a pilot program serving 5,000 students. The program's model is a "three tier" coaching program. The first tier would utilize telephonic, secure web chat and group coaching to ensure that each student receives monthly attention to issues relating to both education and personal development. The second and third tiers of the program would offer graduated levels of service dependent upon need, ranging from live one-on-one coaching, administering career interest inventories to facilitating referrals to other professionals.

Capacity Living represents the proposal to be a win-win-win for all. The students would receive consistent availability to an objective third-party who is interested in their achievement. The over-burdened counselor system would receive a much-needed supplemental resource, as Cain insists that the program is not a competitor to any existing school programs or organizations. She makes the point that even if state or federal funds became available in "windfall" amounts, the state's low unemployment rate means there still would not be bodies to hire. The taxpayers win because the program can be effectively implemented at a cost representing a significant savings per student.
